This time 12 months ago, Gary Anderson was licking his wounds after losing in the semi-finals of the World Matchplay.
Without doubt one of THE most popular and now most successful darts stars in the world, Anderson is targeting more of the big trophies in the sport.
World Champion, Premier League Champion, Players Champion and now No.2 in the world.
Michael van Gerwen’s first World Matchplay crown cemented his place at the top of the world rankings, but Anderson has now displaced Phil Taylor at No.2
“It was this time in 2014 that it all started to come together for me and looking back I still have to pinch myself when I think about what has happened.”
Anderson can also stake a claim to having one the best selling darts in the world with sales rocketing. Everyone it seems, wants a set of the World Champion’s Unicorn ‘arrers!
“Even now it feels strange when people say World Champion, but I am very proud. My darts are perfect and I have to thank everyone at Unicorn for all the hard work and support.” Anderson added.
And those Gary Anderson World Champion 90% tungsten 23gm darts continue to fly off the shelf!
Next stop for the Scot on his busy schedule is Australia. He heads to Perth and Sydney then to Auckland, New Zealand for the next three events on darts’ World Series.
“I should have done better in Dubai and Japan, so those three tournaments are very important.”
“I was disappointed with the way I lost at the Matchplay but I move on and learn a lesson. It’s always important to acknowledge a bad performance and learn from it.”
His triple trophy triumph has confirmed his status as one of the greats of the modern era but he is adamant that there is more to come.
“I am very focused to win more of the big TV tournaments and of course I am very determined to defend the World Championship.”
For Anderson and Unicorn, it really is a case of the winning double.
