Intersport ‘spot on’ with shows

Buying group claims to have ‘formula right’ for quarterly shows; Q4 show member attendance tops 90 per cent

Intersport general manager Tom Foley said the buying group has the ‘formula right’ with its quarterly buying shows after closing its recent Q4 event.

The Intersport Q4 show took place on March 30-31, with a focus on hockey, squash, badminton and winter collections. There were also a number of showcase suppliers in attendance.

Attendance figures are reported at 90 per cent amongst members, including new additions DW Sports, which officially joined Intersport at the start of April, and Wandsworth-based Capstick Sports

Taking charge of his first show since being appointed as Intersport general manager, Foley said: “There is a healthy growth trend in attendance figures with each and every event.

“There is no doubt that we have the formula right and this is reflected not just in the numbers of members and suppliers but also in the orders written and the quick tempo around the show.”  

Some industry members had voiced their concerns about the dominance of ‘top tier suppliers’ Nike and adidas during the course of the Q3 show, but Foley said: “The shows are such an integral part of what we do. It is an opportunity for us to work as a group where collective and directional buying yields positive results.

“It creates not only an environment for better buying but an occasion for members to network.”
