Sports Trade Awards hailed a great success

The Sports Trade Awards returned for its second year last night, with a glittering gala dinner and ceremony at the Four Pillars Hotel in Gloucestershire. A great evening was had by all, with major industry names gathered to celebrate the hard work and success of outstanding individuals and businesses in the sector.

Guests were welcomed by a champagne reception, followed by a delicious three course meal. Actor, presenter and sports fan Ryan Philpott hosted the Awards, delighting guests with his on-the-ball jokes and observations on the sports and industry news of the past year.

The 9 Dart Challenge, sponsored by Unicorn Darts, was the perfect way to finish off the evening, with everyone taking part – although with varying levels of skill! In first place was Darren Bird of Canterbury – he wins a pair of club Wembley Bobby Moore tickets. In second place was Ally Leek  – also of Canterbury – he wins a pair of tickets to a premier regional darts match. And in third place, winning  Fortnum and Mason Champagne and chocolates, was Brad Newick of Puma.

The evening also raised £1,160 for The Children’s Air Ambulance.

Industry members were invited to nominate brands, individuals, retailers and services who have shown distinction in the past twelve months for a variety of award categories. The secure online voting process produced five finalists, with the winners being those who had attracted the most votes overall.

Paul Ryder, event director and publisher of the SGB group of magazines, said: “The 2014 Sports Trade Awards provided industry members with an opportunity to commend those who have achieved and contributed the most to the trade this year. We were amazed by the response we received – the awards have become an established event on the sporting industry calendar and we look forward to next year!”
