UCF students celebrate with fashion show

Graduating students present final collections at second annual fashion show

University College Falmouth (UCF) design students have presented their final collections before graduating.

Students from the Performance Sportswear Design and Fashion Design courses showcased varied collections created from their different inspirations, such as Lynsey Campbell’s running wear collection, Hazel Wakefield’s women’s sportswear range, Mette Larsen’s children’s line, Nettie Scott’s high altitude sport-inspired collection and Jun Kamo’s unique collection fusing t-shirts, backpacks and jeans with illustration.

There were also presentations from second year Performance Sportswear Design students showcasing a number of techniques, such as digital printing, flat seaming, ultrasonic welding and others. This included Owen Bennett’s award-winning jacket, which claimed top prize in the 2010 Gore-Tex Jacket competition.

UCF design department head Patrick Gottelier said he was extremely proud of the students on show, particularly at the individuality shown.

“It was an eclectic mix of garments that we’re very proud of and made for a good show. One of the things I’m most proud of though is the individuality on show; just by looking at the collections you could recognise who had put them together without seeing the name.”

Most students already have worked lined up in the performance sportswear industry, with others in the process of being interviewed by leading companies.
