About Us

  Sporting Goods Business - (SGB)

For over 40 years, Sporting Goods Business (SGB) has been read by independent and multiple sports retail buyers.

Originally known as Harpers Sports and Leisure, and following its merger with
Sports Trader and Sports Update, SGB became the only trade magazine for the
sports buyer – providing informed and unbiased editorial, all housed in a high
quality printed magazine.

Moving in 2011, and embracing changes to both media and sports industries, SGB will now grow further than ever before, offering sports trade information and advice in several different traditional and electronic formats.

Editorial Policy

Some months ago, SGB commissioned an indepedent survey of the sports trade, asking several questions about what products they bought, when they bought them and what information was useful to them as part of their day to day roles.

The survey revealed some very interesting information about what readers found useful, and in particular how this information was presented, and the time in which it was delivered.

With this in mind, 2011 will see a completely new SGB emerge, with the following promise to our readers and advertisers;

'Every story within SGB will be sourced, researched and written by our new editorial team at SGB'.

Sectionalisation

From our January issue, SGB will be divided into three key sections: providing information for each part of their day to day roles, alongside a regular, familar structure - which will help readers find exactly what they are looking for.

Industry
Editorial which pertains to the industry as a whole will feature here, such as;
Industry News, Market Analysis, Comment from Buying Groups (Stag and Intersport)
and show reviews.

Buying
Prior to each season where retailers/buyers purchase sports equipment, SGB will review
each product sector, giving readers information on what products will be available to
purchase ready for each buying season.

Selling
This section will focus on the ‘sell through’ of stock that retailers have already
purchased, aiming to educate staff with key product and market information from the
sector, helping to maximise the sale of their products.

Fully interactive digital issue

Alongside its traditional printed circulation, SGB is also available in a fully interactive digital format.

As shown to the left, the digital issue requires no special software to view and offers live email and weblinks, alongside embedded video and flash content.

Our digital issue offers our readers a unique and flexible way of reading any of our issues (over the last three years) whenever they want, wherever they want.
