League Stars set for Golden Boot & Glove Accolades
The Football League and its Official Technical Partner, PUMA, have unveiled a new set of awards marking the achievements of The League's leading strikers and goalkeepers - with the top marksman and keeper in each division of the Coca-Cola Football League winning a PUMA Golden Boot or PUMA Golden Glove come the end of the season.
Launching the PUMA Golden Boot and Golden Glove awards Lord Mawhinney chairman of The Football League said: "All fans recognise the difference a good striker or goalkeeper can make to a team and this is an opportunity to reward those that will make the most impact this season. I'm sure the PUMA Golden Boot and Golden Glove awards will be keenly contested throughout the season ahead."
Richard Callaway, team sports marketing manager at PUMA UK, added:
"Strikers and goalkeepers can often win a match for their team with a last-minute goal or breathtaking save. These new accolades give us an opportunity to reward players of all levels"
Goals scored in league and cup football - including the Carling Cup, Johnstone's Paint Trophy and the FA Cup - will contribute towards players' goal tallies for the PUMA Golden Boot award, whilst the PUMA Golden Glove will be awarded to the goalkeeper with the cleanest sheets in the same competitions.
