ASICS has introduced what it is claimed to be the first shoe to specifically accommodate the troublesome effect of diabetes. The ASICS GELCardio incorporates features that help protect against foot injuries to which diabetics are specifically prone.

As diabetes is increasing worldwide, due largely to poor diets and lack of exercise, the need to encourage diabetics to exercise is greater than ever. The GELCardio has been created for type II Diabetes sufferers, helping to prevent foot infections, excessive load on limbs and blisters on the soles of feet – all common ailments suffered by diabetics with a passion for exercise.

The GEL-Cardio contains a number of technologies, along with what are said to be new and innovative features previously not utilised in performance walking footwear.

To prevent the development of blisters or other foot problems, the shoe incorporates a long vamp design, hard insole board, soft sock liner and a booty type lining that reduces compression and friction on the forefoot. To help reduce the possibility of infection, the sock liner has an anti-bacterial surface to help control humidity. Lastly, the hard insole board and ortholyte sock liner reduce the load on lower limbs, perfect for diabetic walkers. Added to all these features is ASICS SpEVA midsole, with a DuoMax AHAR outsole to enhance easy motion.
