SGB UK March
It’s been another hectic month at SGB UK, with an increasing number of companies getting in contact, eager to get coverage in the magazine.
We’ve really packed this issue full of interesting news and features – a quick flick through should provide a taster of what’s to come. But make sure you find time to sit and enjoy it too!
Check out my interview with Roger Harrison, marketing director for Puma in the UK and Ireland. I was so impressed that such a wellestablished brand had a clear strategy for working with independents sports retailers. It’s interesting to see that not all the bigger brands stereotype the independent sports shop. Puma understands that each and every retailer is different in its approach to the trade and that success is based upon a number of variables. Know yourself, it advises. Turn to page 6 to find out more.
And make some noise for racquet sports this season! The brands are pulling out all the stops to make sure players get out on that court and win. Getting the right product is vital to the outcome of the game. On page 8 we reveal more…
Roger Bourne and I paid a visit to Zoggs towers earlier this month to discuss the technological advances being made by the brand. Zoggs too sang the praises of the independent sports retailer, claiming there to be a kickback against the sports retail experience offered by the multiples, in favour of the specialised, personal service that characterises the independent. This is an interview not to be missed on page 12.
Meanwhile, ‘Our man about the trade’ Jack Lynes made his way to the Sports Merchandise Exhibition at Chelsea. On pages 16 and 17 he discusses why he has since changed his view on the validity of such a show.
In an interesting story on page 20, we bring you news on how the church and football have been reconciled…
And last but by no means least, Dean Jackson of Reebok Fitness took me behind the scenes to find out what it is that makes the brand on page 22.
Enjoy!
