Grass roots sport in Knaresborough has received a boost following a £413,894 award to Knaresborough Celtic FC by the Football Foundation, the UK’s largest sports charity. Local MP Phil Willis presented the club with a cheque at a photo opportunity at 11.30am on Thursday 2 August at the grounds of Knaresborough Castle,Market Place, Knaresborough.

The funding will enable the club to develop high quality sports facilities for the local community at Thistle Hill in Knaresborough. These will include a brand new state-of-the-art pavilion, incorporating four team changing rooms and two match officials changing rooms to cater for both male and female players and officials. It will also fund the development of one senior, two junior and three mini-soccer grass football pitches including earthworks leveling, pitch drainage and surface amelioration.

Paul Thorogood, chief executive of the Football Foundation said: “We warmly congratulate Knaresborough Celtic FC and the West Riding FA for their hard work and dedication in securing this award. I am delighted to see the local MP Phil Willis supporting grass roots sports in the area as well.
