SGB UK September
Hello and welcome to SGB – Sports and Outdoor! I'm the title's new editor, Jon Bruford, and I'll be guiding SGB through some changes in forthcoming issues. I'd very much like to hear your opinions about what a sports retail and outdoor magazine should be bringing to its readers, so feel free to email me on jonbruford@yahoo.co.uk to share your opinions.
My first issue has been a very, very steep learning curve, but it's also been a lot of fun. I've already met some great people from the industry and I'm looking forward to meeting a lot more over the coming months.
One of the most interesting aspects of the magazine is the crossover between sports and outdoor. For example, this issue the new product section of outdoor (p18) features some maritime footwear, while new product in sporting gear (p38) has some sunglasses which could appear in either. With that in mind, from next issue the lines between sports and outdoor will be more clearly defined within the magazine, with outdoor gear, features and news together in their own section, and sports separate within these pages.
This issue has a cracking feature from Jack Lynes as he meets Gray Nicholls' Nick Wilson on page 20, while page 28 has a fascinating brand profile on Dunlop Slazenger. Tom Hutton talks mountain bikes on pages 16 and 17, while the rest of the issue is all about product – cricket (p22 and 26), racquet sports (30, 32), fitness (34-36) and plenty of new product too.
Enjoy the issue – and please, feel free to get in touch with thoughts and comments.
