While politicians and activists have fallen over themselves in recent times to expound the relevancy of green issues, it has been the sport industry that has led the way in terms of actionable steps forward. In response to this raft of environmental campaigns being undertaken by sports brands and organisations, the Environmental Concern in Sport Award, in association with SweetSpot has been added to the categories for the Sport Industry Awards 2008.
Sport has a huge opportunity to lead from the front in terms of raising awareness of green issues and the winner of the inaugural Environmental Concern in Sport Award will be the campaign that has grasped this opportunity with the most success over the course of 2007.
The steering committee of environmental experts brought together especially to judge this new award will be looking for an engaging campaign that has had a demonstrable impact on both environmental concern and also the business or organisation concerned. In drawing up the shortlist for the Environmental Concern in Sport Award, the judges will also look to reward campaigns that have been both effective in the short term and have provided a longer term legacy.
