Gore sponsors Polar quest
Supported by performance fabric supplier W L Gore & Associates (UK) Ltd, the “Polar Quest” team, a joint Royal Navy & Royal Marines expedition successfully achieved their aim earlier this year. The team entered the record books as the first Royal Marine Team to walk 2,800kms unsupported to the South Pole and became members of an elite group of only 8 Britons to have completed the overland ski journey to and from the Pole.
To ensure that team members were properly equipped for their North and South Pole challenges, Gore supplied a selection of waterproof, windproof and breathable GORE-TEX® products to protect them from the harsh elements of both the Arctic and Antarctic climates. Highly breathable and durable GORE-TEX® outerwear provided comfort, warmth and protection to team members during the trip.
One of the primary objectives of the challenge was to involve students in the expedition through an interactive site on the internet. The site offered students the opportunity to track and interact with the team, learn about the Polar regions and the spirit of adventure that inspired the quest to discover the North West Passage. The students experienced some of the culture that the Polar environments had to offer, which helped them understand the teamwork that is required to survive in such extreme conditions.
