OIA clarifies direction
The Outdoor Industries Association (OIA) Council met mid-December to consider a strategic plan that was drawn up following a comprehensive review of the organisation that had been undertaken during the previous six months. That review covered aims, objectives, structures and activities. It incorporated a report, produced by Lewis Grundy for the OIA Council, which provided a situation analysis, suggested some options and informed the Council as it planned for the future.
Following the review, the OIA Council has established a clear direction for the association and agreed some fundamental long term goals and shorter term plans, designed to deliver a relevant, dynamic and effective trade association. In addition, a draft plan of action for 2008 has now been developed.
Over the coming weeks, the details of that plan will be finalised and towards the end of January the Council will make an announcement, to clarify the overall future strategy for the OIA and outline immediate plans for the association. The Council has appointed communications specialists Press Ahead to deliver aspects of the action plan. Chris Lines, director of Press Ahead, also assisted the Council in developing the strategic plan, following the review.
Frank Bennett, chairman of the OIA, comments: "The review of the OIA that we undertook was ‘root and branch'. It was at times complex, asked some difficult questions, and engaged many people from across the trade, both through commissioned and informal work."
