Swede wins 2007 Innovation for Extremes Award - using Polartec

Swedish designer Jan-Fahrenheit Betros used 100 per cent recycled Polartec Power Dry Recycled fabric in the sports garment that won him the 2007 Innovation for Extremes award. The Award was presented to students and new designers by Innovex-07 - the world's only innovation conference to target the outdoor trade - which aims to encourage innovation in the trade.

Betros [pictured in his design] was inspired by a Polartec base layer which he worked on to optimise it for active sports. Betros - previously an elite gymnast - personally tested his design to the max. Fresh, simple and highly functional, his garment has the added benefit high breathability, quick drying, and durability and is machine washable thanks to Polartec.

Douglas Lumb - Polartec Senior Vice President of Product Development, said:  "It is in the best interest of the outdoor market for companies like Polartec to encourage young designers and textile technologists to break the standards of a mature outdoor market with new looks and technology application. Jan-Fahrenheit has turned up the heat in design by applying the right fabrics into innovative design. His garments won the design competition at Innovex-07 with creative application of Polartec fabrics made with recycled fibres/yarns applicable to a wide range of outdoor activities requiring stretch and fit."

As a result of the Award, Betros has launched his own technical, green sportswear brand RÖJK [say Royik] and is looking for a UK distributor. The top will be available in black/ white, black/hot pink and black/moss green in Polartec Power Dry and Polartec Power Stretch. Sizes will be unisex.
