Exel: New CEO
From April 2008, Vesa Korpimies - who works for the pole-supplier for 20 years, lately as Executive Vice President - will be the successor of Göran Jönsson who functioned as CEO in the interim. In 2007, Exel made a plus of 1 per cent in turnover (113.5 million Euro), the operative benefit increased from 0.4 million to 4.8 million Euro. The industrial parts of the company are responsible for these positive numbers, whereas the sports division had a weak result. Without giving numbers, Exel announces that the performance of the sports division is very dissatisfied because of decreasing turnover and further deficits.
Cascade Designs: Jansen sells in Europe
At outdoor company Cascade Designs, Annette Jansen takes over the responsibility for the Europe-wide distribution of the brands Therm-a-Rest (mats), MSR (tents, stoves, accessories), Sealline (bags), and Platypus (drinking systems). Formerly, Jansen worked for Tubbs and K2 as Sales Manager. She succeeds Frenchman Bruno Coffre, who has left the company.
Frank Spiewack leaves Macpac
After the takeover of the New Zealand outdoor-supplier Macpac by local retailer Mouton Noir, there are also changes in staff: Frank Spiewack, long-term European Sales Manager, has decided to leave the company. His successor has not yet been named.
David Fearnley leaves Dunlop Golf
David Fearnley, long-term German and international Dunlop Golf-Manager, has left the company. Since Dunlop sourced the golf business (without UK) out to the Dutch Edco, he had his office in Eindhoven. So far, it is unclear who will take over his role.
Fischer: Decrease in turnover
Gregor Dietachmayr, General Manager of Fischer, forecasts only an overall turnover of 120 million Euro (previous year: 159.4 million Euro), which means a drop of 25 per cent.
The worldwide decreases of alpine skis are very painful: their volume reduced supposedly from 4.6 million pairs (2005/06) down to 4 million pairs (2006/07) and at the moment down to 3.4 million pairs. More dramatic is the situation of cross-country skis: 1.9 million pairs in 2005/06, 1.2 million pairs in 2006/07 and 1.4 million pairs this winter season.
MGM extends Fila license to ice-skates
The Italian company MGM (Vedelago), for nine years worldwide licensee and distributor of Fila inline skates, has taken over the responsibility for Fila ice-skates.
Boot-Doc: New distributor is Thermic
The Austrian company Thermic (Gleisdorf) takes over by March 1st the worldwide distribution of Boot-Doc, a foot measuring and insert system. Up to now, Boot-Doc worked together with Dalbello, but this cooperation was terminated because of different opinions in structural decisions.
Fjällräven: New Marketing Director is Jerry Engström
Fjällräven hired Jerry Engström as Marketing Director. The 30-year-old replaces Lars-Ola Brolinson who is the new Marketing and Sales Cordinator for Fenix Outdoor (the holding company of Fjällräven, Primus, Hanwag, and Tierra).
Mammut: Two-digit increase in turnover
As Rolf Schmid, General Manager of Mammut Sports Group, announced at the Winter Ispo, the company increased its turnover by 10 per cent in 2007 and made altogether 180 million CHF (112 million Euro). The emphasis on worldwide sales are mainly in German-speaking countries with the following shares: 25.8% in Switzerland, 23.5% in Germany, and 15.9% in Austria. The rest of Europe makes 22%, whereas the markets USA (6.6%) and Asia (6.2%) only play a minor part. Moreover, Schmid announced the opening of further franchised Mammut-mono brand stores. About 30 to 40 (five to six in each market) should be opened in the next five, six years. In the long term, the Swiss expect a turnover less than five per cent under this distribution channel.
