Roberts joins Berghaus, plus new store in Japan
Berghaus has announced the appointment of a sales director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Simon Roberts has joined the company and will work alongside UK sales director Richard Leedham, reporting to brand president Richard Cotter.
The sales director EMEA has complete responsibility for managing the partners and all related sales activities in the relevant territories. Berghaus currently operates in 24 markets, 17 of which fall within the EMEA boundaries.
Simon Roberts has extensive knowledge of the European outdoor sector having been involved in the industry for the last 10 years. He previously worked at Berghaus from 1998 until 2005, during which time he held a number of senior roles and was part of the team responsible for turning it into an increasingly profitable concern.
Simon spoke of his appointment: "The potential for Berghaus in Europe is huge. The brand is already very well established across the continent and the new agreements that have been signed over the last year are already making a major impact. We now have outstanding partners in many key markets and I will be working with them and my own team at Berghaus to achieve the sales growth that will help this business grow."
Meanwhile, Berghaus continues its global expansion as the company signed an exclusive five year deal with a new licensee that will see the brand significantly extend its reach in Japan. Arugo Active will trade in the market as Berghaus Japan, introducing products into retail from autumn 2008. Berghaus first launched into Japan in September 2007 through premium Japanese retailer Marui, which has established the brand and provided a solid platform for the new deal.
Berghaus Japan has already started its sales, marketing and brand building efforts reaching out to the wider Japanese market, worth $2 billion annually, and first deliveries are scheduled for September. The products will continue to be sold through retailers such as Marui Berghaus Japan aims to increase the number of retailers listing the brand to180 by the end of 2009.
