SGB Sports and Outdoors - July
It's been a superb summer for sport all ends up, even without any significant input from the British Isles or Ireland. Euro 2008 was a huge success and as a footballing spectacle, one of the best tournaments I can remember. The organisers did a fine job from what I could see, the the competing nations provided an absolute feast of remarkable, heartbreaking and thrilling football.
Wimbledon was also wonderful. Can you remember a better final, both for drama and the sheer quality of the tennis? Games like that inspire people to start playing themselves, and we can all benefit from that. Wilson had cause to celebrate the tournament too, as Laura Robson, the 14-year-old winner of the Junior Girls tournament, plays with a Wilson [K] Blade 98. She's the first British player to win a singles tournament since 1984, and looks a real prospect.
Of course, it's one thing seeing people become inspired by great athletes and wonderful wins, but it's another entirely for the rain to hold off for long enough to actually get to play some bloody tennis.
Roll on Autumn.
