What a summer of sport. The excellent Euros, a classic Wimbledon and now, a spectacular Olympics in which, at the time of writing, Team GB have two golds, a silver and a bronze. Amazingly, two of those medals came in the pool in the women's 400m freestyle in one of the most wonderful, brilliantly executed races I can remember seeing.

Now if THAT doesn't drive people into the pool this summer, nothing will - so stock up on your goggles, nose clips and earplugs! There's a lot more to come from this team over the course of this tournament too, so fingers crossed for a few more medals of any colour.

By the time you read this, the Premier League will have kicked off again for another year, and the transfer merry-go-round of the summer will have ended. Most teams have shown their new kits for the season already, with many deciding on a more classic look like the shirts of yesteryear, rather than the ever-more-complicated stylings that were evolving a few years ago. Chelsea, for example, have realised that the fans want an uncomplicated blue shirt for home games, and a very simple yellow away; finally the club has listened and delivered. Maybe more manufacturers and clubs will collaborate in years to come to deliver what fans actually want, instead of trying to guess in a scattergun fashion and relatively rarely getting it right.

Ah, sport. Where would we be without you? Worrying even more about the price of food, house repossessions and fuel costs, that's where.
