Reusch and Gore announce partnership
Reusch and W.L. Gore & Associates have agreed a strategic partnership for the development of innovative, highly functional gloves to satisfy the special requirements of the ski-racing category.
The start of the collaboration between the leading manufacturer in the ski-glove field and the specialist for innovative functional membranes will coincide with the beginning of the 2009 trade season. Reusch has created an innovative ski-racing glove that leverages the X-TRAFIT product technology, developed by GORE. Gore's ability to enable game changing product development offered an ideal basis for the Reusch and Gore teams to further develop an innovative product for the sport of ski racing.
The X-TRAFIT product technology combines two attributes that have long remained incompatible: optimal fit, and high tactility with 100 per cent protection against adverse weather. To date, this technology has only been used in gloves for motorcyclists. Further evolution and optimisation for the ski-racing field is a logical step for a technology with such tremendous potential.
The technical advantage resulting from the co-operation was a decisive factor in prompting Reusch to commence a long-term partnership with GORE.
"In GORE, we have found a partner with whom it was possible to create a new technology which applies the specialists know-how that we have gained through our many years of experience and our constructive partnership with the most successful racing skiers. This technology combines grip and protection with climate comfort and waterproofness. It thus achieves our common goal: to better meet the needs of today's top athletes," explained Erich Weitzmann, responsible for international sponsoring at Reusch.
Richard Leckenwalter, who is responsible for GORE's glove business, describes the development of the X-TRAFIT product technology for ski-racing gloves as: "a big step forward.Individualised technologies will enable us to better fulfill consumers' specific requirements. At the same time, our entrance into the ski-racing field offers us opportunities to continually expand our spectrum of products."
