Educational charity The Outward Bound Trust has become the first outdoor learning organisation in the country, to make a commitment that all of its instructors will have recognised, external accreditation of their learning skills.

All of the Trust's new instructor recruits will gain Registered Practitioner of the Institute for Outdoor Learning (RPIOL), which recognises the skills and understanding required to deliver the best possible outdoor development courses.

The Trust's thorough and structured instructor training and assessment process has been aligned with the requirements of RPIOL. This is designed to give the Outward Bound Trust's training external validation and ensure that all instructors are properly qualified to deliver meaningful education to young people.

Nick Barrett, chief executive of The Outward Bound Trust, said: "The Trust has a genuine commitment to delivering the highest quality outdoor learning available.

"Our instructors are some of the most experienced and skilled outdoor teachers in the country. The fact that they are now gaining RPIOL status is another indication that the Trust really is leading the way in providing experiential learning in the outdoors."

The RPIOL is awarded by the Institute for Outdoor Learning, the independent UK professional body for individuals and companies involved in delivering all aspects of outdoor learning._Karen Frith, chief executive officer of the Institute for Outdoor Learning, said: "I am delighted that the Outward Bound Trust signed up to this initiative. It confirms their commitment to ensuring that staff receive the highest level of training and support, while at the same time continuing to improve the quality of their services to young people."
