US holiday results in The Wave hitting UK
When Oliver Webb holidayed in the US in 2006 he didn't think for one moment that, 18 months later, he would be about to invest a six-figure sum in promoting a new board sport to British children.
Oliver discovered Streetsurfing and its associated board, THE WAVE, in a large toy shop in the US and immediately felt it would be a hit in this country. A cross between a surf, snow and skateboard, THE WAVE was easy to master and had the track-record of a hugely successful US campaign behind it.
The British distributor, who also runs a successful musical instrument business, has just booked television advertising on Nickelodeon to run up to Christmas, is adding a new section devoted to children to its UK website and is currently planning a promotion to tie in with THE WAVE'S prominent placement in next year's Hannah Montana movie.
The investment is also supported by a pre-existing school PE programme where Streetsurfing instruct PE teachers who in turn instruct their pupils. This programme, combined with the one in the US, has meant that nearly 2 million children have been introduced to the sport so far.
