GP's to prescribe Silva's pedometers
A new NHS initiative sees Silva’s pedometers used in a campaign to improve the health of the population in England.
To combat the increasingly sedentary lifestyle of the population in England, the NHS has launched a new exercise campaign:
"Walking the Way to Health" Initiative (WHI) where doctors will prescribe Silva pedometers to patients who need to increase the amount of exercise they take in the form of gentle walking. The pedometers are packaged in a medicine pillbox to give the impression that in many cases exercise is as good as medicine.
The initial NHS order is for 109,000 pedometers, with 9000 of these being used for a project to encourage children to get active.
