At a cost of £70,000 and spanning two floors at 8m tall and built with 40 tons of water, the first indoor ice wall in a ‘The North Face’ store and the largest in a retail environment was officially opened in Manchester on Thursday 8th December.

Housed in The North Face store on Deansgate, Manchester, the wall was officially opened by the UK’s number one climber and current BICC champion, Bury’s Gaz Parry.

Keith Byrne, Marketing Manager of The North Face, says, "There are already many keen climbers in the Manchester area and we hope this will encourage many more people to have a go at one of the more extreme forms of climbing.

"Many of the visitors to the shop have been watching the progress of the ice wall and eagerly anticipating it’s opening so we expect it to be very busy. Our instructors are trained to help people of all skill levels so anybody can come and have a go. Our own

local athlete, Gaz Parry will certainly be making use of it to practise his skills."
