Around the world on a penny farthing
Modern day adventurer, Joff Summerfield, is set to fulfil a lifetime ambition to cycle around the world.
By anyone’s standards this is an ambitious project, yet making his venture even more remarkable is that he will be doing it on a Penny Farthing. Summerfield will begin his journey on May 1, from Greenwich Observatory, London. He will then head across Europe to Iran and India and then through Nepal to Everest base camp.
This, he believes will be the first crossing of the Himalayas on a Penny Farthing. He will then continue to Tibet, China and then through south east Asia and onto Australia. He will then cross the USA and Canada to complete his journey back to England three years later.
Cycling with no back up Summerfield will be spending most of his nights under canvas, Terra Nova has provided him with the Laser Competition, the world’s lightest tent. Commenting, Carolyn Budding, marketing director, Terra Nova said, “We are delighted to be supporting Joff in his world tour, ensuring that he has some modern technology to shelter him at night!”
