First words from the Ed...
Continuing with my statement from last month, in terms of giving something back to the environment, which we all benefit from, we will be running a regular ‘Green’ section from November. Essentially this is to highlight organisations (be they manufacturers, distributors or retailers) who are embarking on environmental issues. Here at SGB Outdoor, we too are beginning to do our bit, and in fact, from this month, you will notice at the foot of this page the recycling logo. The purpose of this is to remind all of you, our wonderful readers, that when you have finished with your copy of the magazine (and obviously passed it on to fellow outdoor enthusiasts) to please recycle the paper - Don’t Bin It! This may only be a minor step, but it is certainly one in the right direction. After all, if every magazine, newspaper etc that you read is recycled, then we all will be helping the environment.
Along with reports on activities such as The John Muir Trust and Clean Mountain Expeditions, to name but a few, we will also be featuring ‘Eco’ friendly products, such as the new Pure Leaf ‘Eco Line’ collection from Lafuma. It was also very refreshing to note that the EOG’s Association for Conservation has made a tremendous impact, with many organisations signing up in support of such a great cause (see page 3) - again this will be another area that we will follow closely and report on in up and coming issues.
Perhaps at your business you are also embarking on an initiative to help our environment, please do let us know, and we will be delighted to support it through media coverage.
This month has also seen a great deal of change in personnel within the industry - a common occurrence once the summer months draw to a close - yet there have been some interesting resignations and appointments no less. (See pages 4-5). Here, at SGB Outdoor, we too have seen a change. This month, we say goodbye to Sarah Bourne, our advertising manager, and I am certain that the trade joins us in wishing her well in her new venture. Yet all is not lost - since with her departure, comes the return of an ‘old’ face. Gavin Simms, who many of you will remember from days before my time, will be rejoining the team towards the end of the month, having spent the last couple of years at a competitive publishing house, we are very pleased to welcome him back.
