New Irish retail alliance takes on the multiples
The last number of months has seen the launch and fast development of ISRA, Ireland's first Independent Sports Retailer Alliance designed to create a network between Individual Irish sports retailers and their Suppliers. ISRA is the first Independent Sports Retailer Alliance in Ireland.
Indigenous Irish businesses are still the backbone of the economy with independent businesses accounting for 75% of all Irish businesses and approximately 50% of all the Irish workforce. However they are under threat, being forced to sell up as the international multiple branded chain stores move in to the Irish marketplace. The aim of the ISRA alliance is to help its independent members compete against the influx of multiples which are homogenising the Irish high street similar to that of the U.K. and to overcome the difficulties experienced by small independent sportswear retailers operating in isolation throughout Ireland.
The hub of the ISRA network is its new website - www.isra.ie - a highly functional marketplace that introduces collective purchasing power that the individual retailers wouldn't previously have had. It is the ideal medium to facilitate direct, easy and speedier communication between large suppliers and the independent sports retailers.
