Speedo is pleased to introduce its new spring/summer collection for 2008. Light – in all its qualities – is the inspiration behind the collection which features swimwear and lifestyle apparel products for people of all ages, whether in or out of the water.
A team of designers under the direction of Adrian Ward-Rees,worldwide head of product at Speedo, is behind the collection. Beginning with the desire to give people confidence,Adrian and his team of designers looked at the different qualities of light to express this and identified two pillars for the SS08 collection. The first, laser light, to convey the way sport and performance swimmers focus their energy; and the second, radiant light which represents the reflections of light on water and articulates the transcendent diffusion of energy through personality and emotion.
Commenting on the collection,Adrian said: “Our creative direction for this season, coupled with the luscious and opulent colours that are a key trend for spring/summer, has resulted in a really strong range of products that tell a great story. I have great confidence in our SS08 global collection as it certainly reflects the research, commitment, experience and energy that has gone into designing and creating the product. It is a very exciting time for our brand as we build on our iconic status and continue to develop our unique position within the increasingly competitive world of swimwear design.”
As a result of extensive consumer research Speedo has divided the new collection into four clear ranges, offering product that has been designed with very specific consumer groups in mind. The capsule collections: Wellbeing, Fashion, Sports and Performance, each offer a tailored range of product, demonstrating a clear understanding of what the wearer is looking for.
Speedo’s designers studied the consumer portfolio and identified an interpretation for each category: for wellbeing - radiant light is about luxury; for fashion – beauty; for performance - laser light is about control and accuracy and for sport - power. Using this creative inspiration and the understanding of the very different consumer targets, Speedo’s SS08 collection was born.
Wellbeing: luxury inspired by healing light
The Wellbeing consumer is becoming increasingly important to Speedo. The continuing focus on a need for a balanced lifestyle creates an opportunity to develop a collection aimed specifically at this consumer group - a natural fit for Speedo that is reflected in the continued growth of sales in this sector worldwide.
Acknowledging the consumer trend and drawing on feedback gleaned from Speedo’s research, the inspiration for ‘Healing Light’ - the key story in the Wellbeing sector - is Crystal Therapy, inspired by the ancient holistic belief that crystals have healing properties and are a source of energy, balance and inner peace.
