Fair weather runnersIt's so much easier to maintain the motivation to get up and run in the summer. Blow away the winter blues and get some fresh air and endorphins - and with so many great clothing options your customers can even look good doing it! Zöe Foster looks at the options...Published: 31 May, 2009Summer running is a different animal; common sense dictates that running in Autumn, Winter and Spring is preferable; temperature and humidity in the British Isles is more agreeable to such hot, sweaty work. But Summer is also when people's thoughts turn to how they'll look on the beach, and how best to shed those excess pounds - plus it's a hell of a lot easier to motivate yourself to get out on a sunny morning than on a cold, wet day.
- Marathon runningZöe Foster looks at the latest marathon training essentialsPublished: 04 March, 2009
Marathon running is a real test of a person's resolve, it's not a distance that you can get through without careful planning to prevent injuries or 'hitting the wall'. Training is over longer distances and therefore, for prolonged periods of time. If runners are planning to do many of the races in the UK which are in the Spring - ie the Flora London Marathon - the average runner will be building their endurance base through the cold, dark winter months.
GatoradePublished: 04 March, 2009During preparation for a race, a runner will gauge what suits them in terms of hydration; Gatorade recommend runners to hydrate two to three hours before exercise. "Active people should aim for at least 250ml of fluid at this time and an additional 125ml 10 to 20 minutes prior to exercising," they advise, adding: "Thirst is not a good indicator of hydration. If you wait until you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated."
OxyShotPublished: 04 March, 2009Another interesting product which can be used to boost the body on a distance run is OxyShot. As we know, under stress and physical exertion, the body's requirement for oxygen increases substantially. Until recently it wasn't possible to supplement oxygen levels naturally or without the use of compressed gas cylinders.
CarboSHOTZ and electrolyteSHOTZPublished: 04 March, 2009If you consider that for most amateur athletes a really repectable time to run 26.2 miles is under four hours, then they will need to take on food as well as hydration. CarboSHOTZ Energy Gel is a complex carbohydrate liquid/gel that is designed to fuel active muscles during activity. The science behind these gels is to minimise the amount of time required to process a food into glycogen.
