Brooks Sports Ghost 3 notches up industry awards
Running footwear company, Brooks Sports has seen its Ghost 3 shoe win the Editor’s Choice in the Runner’s World shoe guide this month, scoring highest out of 24 performance running shoes tested and reviewed over the course of a month. At the same time, the shoe was also voted Editor’s Choice by Endurance Sports Media Group, publisher of more than 20 regional running and endurance athlete publications throughout North America.
Running legend celebrates 40th anniversary of marathon win
Running legend, Dr Ron Hill, MBE, recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of his gold medal marathon win in the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1970. He took the medal in a world record time. Earlier that year he had also become the first Briton to win the Boston Marathon in a course record.
To celebrate his achievements, staff at the Bollin Group gave Ron a special presentation and video footage of his successes.
Andy "The Viking" Fordham Signs New Deal with Winmau
Winmau have signed a new sponsorship agreement with darts World Champion Andy Fordham in a 3-year sponsorship deal that will run to 2013.
Fordham became a major TV celebrity when he was crowned the 2004 Lakeside World Professional Darts Champion and his darting talent and larger than life appeal has seen him remain as one of the most popular dart players in the World.

Mizuno Ignitus demand outstrips supply
Following its World Cup success, sales of the Mizuno Ignitus boot have soared making it one of the most talked about boots of the tournament, the company says. According to Mizuno, the boot has sold 70,000 pairs in Japan alone since the start of the World Cup and demand is so high that many retailers have sold out and are unable to get additional stock.

High performance shoe company UK Gear is planning to expand its operation throughout the UK and into the United States, having secured £1.25 million investment from venture capital firm Catapult. As part of the new set-up for the Warwickshire-based firm, Mike Tomkins has been appointed chairman.

No sooner had Puma announced its two-year team kit and merchandise deal with Championship high flyers Newcastle United, than the famous brand had followed-up with the announcement that it will be supplying Premiership side Burnley for four seasons, starting with the 2010/11 season.
JD Sports feels the force
Multiple retailer JD Sports has launched a Star Wars collection of trainers and clothing from adidas Originals. JD Sports says the project is “a collaboration of galactic proportions”. The range went on sale on January 18, and features Storm Trooper tee shirts, Darth Vader track tops, and Darth Vader trainers in Black with Orange detail, with images of Vader on the tongue, heel and sole. Surprisingly, these Star Wars Superstar trainers come in adult sizes as well and children’s and nursery sizes.
Tiger’s stock continues to fall
In a survey to discover who were seen to be UK sport’s best and worst role models in 2009, a seemingly invincible David Beckham topped the list of good guys (although he features on both lists), while Tiger Woods rose to the top of the list of bad guys … or should that be ‘sunk’?
The survey was commissioned by SkillsActive, the government Sector Skills Council for Active Leisure and Learning, to support a new diploma in Sport and Active Leisure being launched this year.

Nike wears ion-mask
Nike has become the latest major sports brand to bring ion-mask technology to its shoes, by using the nano-coating technology to waterproof its new Lunar Wood TZ running shoe.
The ion-mask nano-coating technology has been developed by P2i, and it has already been used with great effect by footwear brands Hi-Tec and Ecco. Indeed, in addition to applying the technology to footwear, Hi-Tec has also ion-masked its leather golf gloves.

Jones charged with JJB recovery

"We want to surprise the members - they love it when it stays the same, but then they complain that it's not been changed! We want to keep things fresh for the members."

In memoriam: David Spensley, 1948 - 2009
The sports trade is mourning the loss of David Spensley who passed away on Saturday, March 7th after a short illness. David, who held senior sales and marketing posts with a number of sports brands, died peacefully at home, aged 60. David's career in the sports trade began at Brooks and continued at Gola, Umbro, Ligne 7, uhlsport and most recently Power Bar.

Gloucestershire County Cricket Club has announced Gray Nicolls will be their new kit suppliers from this season, with Tom Richardson, Chief Executive of GCCC and Richard Gray, of Gray Nicolls signing the contract recently [pictured].
Dunlop Squash signs Matthew
Dunlop has signed Nick Matthew to a four-year deal to endorse squash rackets, luggage, string, grips and balls. The 28-year-old currently ranks 12th in the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Men's World Rankings, and will be using the new Dunlop Aerogel 4D Evolution 120 racket, a signature series frame, available as part of the new 2009 Dunlop squash range.
