How sad it was to learn of the recent death of Alex ‘Hurricane’ Higgins, at the age of 61. A tortured genius, Higgins sometimes seemed better suited to bare-knuckle boxing in the back streets of Belfast than he was to snooker, yet with a cue in his hands, and when the mood took him, Higgins was untouchable among his peers over the green baize.
Nike football takes precision to new heights
Following extensive testing Nike’s new football makes its debut in the Premier League this month. The Nike Total 90 Tracer ball, developed together with the world’s premier footballers and teams, has been meticulously designed and engineered for unrivalled consistency, accuracy, touch and visual acuity, the company says. Following the Premier League, it will be played in Italy’s Serie A and Spain’s La Liga.
Prince joins STAG
Racket Sports company, Prince has joined the STAG buying group as a new supplier. The company, which revolutionised the tennis market with its oversize racket, offers performance tennis, squash, badminton and racquetball products. Global campaign for adidas miCoach app
Adidas has launched a global marketing campaign for its miCoach mobile app. Central to the campaign, which introduces the adidas promise to “personally coach you to a Faster You” is a star-studded 60-second film featuring a number of sporting icons including David Villa, Andy Murray, Jonnie Wilkinson, Reggie Bush, Derrick Rose, Victoria Pendleton and Jessica Ennis.

Mizuno Ignitus demand outstrips supply
Following its World Cup success, sales of the Mizuno Ignitus boot have soared making it one of the most talked about boots of the tournament, the company says. According to Mizuno, the boot has sold 70,000 pairs in Japan alone since the start of the World Cup and demand is so high that many retailers have sold out and are unable to get additional stock.
