First up this month, I'd like to congratulate Ardblair on becoming distributors for Polaroid sports glasses, they should be a great addition to an already very strong portfolio.
What else has been going on? Well, Sir Ranulph Fiennes has made it to the top of Everest, finally. What a man, what an example - and what a perfectly humble individual he is. He just... does things. Sets an objective, and goes out to achieve it with minimal fuss and maximum determination.
At his homecoming press conference, he said of the achievement: "I get vertigo, and don't like looking down. But if you are there, you might as well look once." Quite.
Reading about the man's exploits reminds me of something else I read quite recently. I was enjoying the journal of Jane and Mike Tomlinson, on Jane's bike ride across the US while terminally ill with cancer. One of the emails her husband received while they were on the journey was from a woman who asked why they were doing it and if they could just stop doing such things, because it was making her feel inadequate.
I guess all we can do as individuals is live as best we can, and hope that creating a good example os accepted by others in the right way, and not in such a brain-meltingly bloody stupid way as that; Sir Ranulph has already got me thinking about maybe trying a couple of marathons in the next 12 months (thinking back to his amazing marathon running achievement, obviously!), and I'll see what I can do from there...
As always, comments and thoughts from you, the lovely readership, are hugely appreciated. Email 'em to jonbruford@yahoo.co.uk
