Hi-tech clothing merging technology with textiles to improve quality of life for the active ageing population will be created in a ground-breaking research project launched at the University of Wales, Newport recently.

The New Dynamics of Ageing research programme will be carried out at the University's Smart Clothes and Wearable Technology Research Centre which has successfully attracted major research funding for the three year project from the UK's joint research council.

"We are at the beginning of a new industrial revolution as textiles and electronics merge, and this collaborative research project will bring together design and technology to investigate the application of smart textiles in clothing to enhance the well-being and quality of life of the active ageing population," said Jane McCann, principal investigator and leader of the project ‘Design for ageing well: Improving the quality of life for the ageing population using a technology enabled garment system', and the research team at Newport.

Full details of this amazing project can be found on the research pages of Newport School of Art Media and Design at www.newport.ac.uk or by contacting Jen East at 01633 432827 or emailing jen.east@newport.ac.uk.
