UK consumer camping survey confirms growth

Research from a recently published Camping Market Survey by Profile Outdoors confirms growth is likely to continue in the family camping market. The in-depth consumer survey reveals 30% of consumers who were surveyed intend to purchase a new tent in the next 12 months and of those, 76% expect to purchase a family tent.

Brands that feature strongly in the survey include both Outwell and Vango. Both brands scored highly in terms of considered purchase and brand awareness; Gelert also featured strongly in terms of consumer awareness.

The survey reveals the internet is the most popular channel used by consumers to purchase a tent (28%) with many consumers conducting research via traditional routes and then finding the best price online. Go Outdoors emerged as the leading retailer in the tent market, with the most popular price range being £151 - £299.   

The survey is apparently the largest of its kind ever conducted, with over 3,000 respondents.
