Children in the economically and socially deprived areas of North Southwark and North Lambeth have been given a sporting chance thanks to TigerTurf and Nike.
The new facility is at the Lilian Baylis Old School project for the Sports Action Zone.
TigerTurf's NRG surface was originally used in the finals of the Nike Show Your Five's event, at Alexandra Palace in May, and was transported to the Sports Action Zone as part of an ongoing community initiative for grass roots sport.
Sport Action Zones were set up by Sport England in 2000 in response to recommendations from Central Government. They were designed to address the lack of sports activities and facilities in some of the most socially and economically deprived areas of the country and to bring the benefits of sport and physical activity to these communities.
Since the North Lambeth and North Southwark SAZ began operating more than 6,000 people have taken part in activities at the site and the new football facility is expected to have a significant impact on the local community.
