Ispo: 7 - 10th February 2010
Traditionally, it's been the key wintersports show for Europe, but for 2010 the trade show is dropping the ‘winter' to become simply ispo. This is because the show has added much more for visitors, with fitness, outdoor, performance, style and Sports Source Europe all adding to the mix. It is, the organisers say, an evolution, a response to what the market needs. It also means there is no longer a summer ispo event, after the Bike Expo was launched this past summer.
The format remains familiar, with exhibitors organised into communities so retailers can more easily find the sector relevant to them. Communities include: Board, Ski, Outdoor, Sportstyle, Performance and more.
The Outdoor presence has really grown, with 3.5 halls taken up with exhibitors including Terra Nova, Timberland, DMM, Keela, Osprey, Grangers, Regatta, Montane, HI-TEC, Nikwax, Berghaus, Inov-8, Teva, Storm, Craghoppers and a lot more besides.
Online registration is now open at www.ispo.com, and SGB Outdoor heartily recommends that you take advantage of it. Discounts are available for the early booking of visitor tickets, and a four-day visitor ticket bought online before December 3rd is a bargain 25 Euro. Alternative, you can apply for the new Sports Community Card for just 40 Euro, and which replaces the ispocard.
Green credentials
ispo's location, at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre, is certainly environmentally friendly. According to its owners, it is the only facility of its kind that generates 2.7 megawatts (MW) of electricity per year with the world's largest roof-mounted photovoltaic system. Besides two existing systems on the roofs of the 12 halls in rows A and B from the years 1997 and 2002, additional space was created to collect solar energy on the roof of the new multi-story parking garage in 2004. Sponsored by the European Union, the third different types of solar cells and power inverters.
Together with the electricity generated by its combined heating and power plant, the electricity generated by the installation on the "B" halls almost completely covers the trade-fair centre's basic electricity requirement of some four megawatts, which it needs on days when no events are being held.
To relieve the burden on the sewers at the trade-fair center, a seepage system is used to channel rainwater directly to the ground water. In some cases, rainwater from the roofs of the buildings is collected in tanks and used to refill the lakes at the trade-fair center
Natural gas is one of the most environment-friendly sources of energy that is currently available. So using it extensively was an easy choice. The New Munich Trade Fair Centre uses natural gas in its combined heat and power plant and all other heat-generating systems.
A combined heat and power plant that runs on natural gas heats the western portion of the centre, including the West Entrance, the International Congress Centre Munich (ICM) and the main administration building. It has a power output of 2.8 MW and a heat-generating capacity of 3.6 MW.
