BASI launches insurance scheme, wins conference
BASI [British Association of Snowsport Instructors] has launched a new service exclusive to its members with a customised travel insurance scheme, specifically designed to fulfil the needs of a BASI instructor. The new insurance package, available for purchase from December 2009, is the result of collaboration with the highly respected winter sports insurance specialist Dogtag and provides a tailor-made package of insurance cover for BASI instructors who will be travelling and teaching all year round.
The members-only product is a worldwide annual multi-trip policy that allows up to 180 days of snowsports per annum as standard and includes cover for all activities connected with teaching snowsports such as medical expenses, re-patriation, course cancellation and loss of belongings. Cover for public liability is already covered under the BASI licence fee.
BASI also recently learned it was successful in its bid to host the International Ski Instructors Association (ISIA) conference in Scotland in May 2010. The conference will be based in Aviemore in the heart of the Scottish Highlands with delegates invited for a series of workshops and seminars aimed at tackling growth within the sport.
Over 150 delegates will descend on the Spey Valley for discussions with fellow nations as well as sampling some of the traditional delights including the opportunity to play golf or participate in a tour of local whisky distilleries.
In a busy period for the association, BASI has launched a new instructional DVD, with the Ski Club of Great Britain – ‘Skiing Skills – off piste & freeride’. This is the fourth DVD in the Skiing Skills series and is aimed at skiers who want to make their first venture into off piste skiing, or who want to improve in powder.
