Intersport buying show sets the pace
Record-breaking attendance highlighted the recent Intersport buying show, which took place on June 30-July 1 at the company’s purpose built Cranmore Park HQ in Solihull. Intersport hosted 41 suppliers and 5 showcasers, with an impressive attendance of 80 out of 84 members.
The emphasis was on footwear and textiles alongside Christmas lines, selected fitness ranges, darts products, running shoes and apparel ranges, technical sportswear as well as highlights of Intersport’s launch of co-operative consumer campaigns with adidas and Asics.
The strength of the group’s own-label products took centre stage, unveiling Tecnopro tennis wear and table tennis tables, Protouch running apparel, McKinley outdoor footwear and the Etirel and Energetics swim and fitness ranges. Celebrity spot of the show was Iwan Thomas MBE, current 400m British record holder, on the K-Swiss stand.
Commenting on the success, Barry Mellis, Intersport’s general manager, said: “The show allows us to set the pace in the market. The significant increase in membership numbers and our careful repositioning as a brand to take full advantage of our hefty investment in consumer advertising marks us out as a leading force in the industry. Our ideal is to continue to make the brand relevant to consumers, build greater loyalty and gather more members under our banner as we work to stamp our presence on the high street.”
