Shopatron sees strong uptake in e-commerce systems, signing up more than 300 brands in 2010

Online buying specialist Shopatron claims to have signed up more than 300 brands to its retail-integrated e-commerce systems in 2010 as brands realise the need to trade online but avoid channel conflict.

Shopatron’s systems, such as Coex Freedom, are designed to allow brands to sell through their own website and send orders to their retail partners for fulfilment, either via in-store pick-up or delivery. Shopatron claims this eliminates channel conflict, builds retailer relationships, grows distribution and increases overall sales for brands.

It claims to be working with more than 800 manufacturers and 12,000 retail partners across 35 industries, with 200 clients representing 300 brands deploying the technology in 2010.

Active customers are located throughout North America and Europe, including the UK, Germany and France. Brands such as 1000 Mile, Mizuno, Head and Reusch use its systems.

Shopatron chief executive officer Ed Stevens said: “The growth shows that more brands are deciding to sell online, using a retail-friendly system that erases channel conflict.

“Companies have realised the importance of selling online, and they’re making the investment in their web programmes because they clearly see the return on investment.”

Shopatron used last month’s Running Event Expo in the US to highlight how some of its running brands have grown online sales four a forth consecutive quarter, a 63 per cent year-on-year growth in the third quarter.

Stevens said: “Not all running stores can carry every model in every size from every brand. With Shopatron’s ship-to-store e-commerce model, the customer can order a shoe that they know works well for them and schedule to pick it up at a dealer located in their neighborhood.
