BioLogic launches iPhone bike mount
BioLogic targets smartphone’s features to help get more people cycling
Urban cycling equipment specialist BioLogic has introduced a new bike mount designed specifically for the iPhone 4, which it sees as an opportunity to increase uptake of cycling.
The iPhone 4 is Apple’s most successful mobile handset to date, and features a new design compared to previous models. It has glass fascias at the front and rear of the device, as well as two cameras. The Apple App Store remains the world’s most popular application portal, with around 300,000 downloadable applications, including health and fitness programs, pedometers and a range of other cycling applications.
The iPhone 4 bike mount is a fully-enclosed, hard case secured to the bike with a double-pivot latch. A welded, touch-sensitive membrane on the front allows full use of the iPhone’s applications, while protecting the device’s touchscreen. The membrane-protected window on the front of the case also allows use of the front-facing camera and FaceTime video calling application.
Inside the bike mount, a soft silicone liner provides a secure fit while providing excellent shock resistance, while integrated RidgeSeal technology forms a tight seal against the elements.
The BioLogic iPhone 4 bike mount also features a clear lens to allow the phone’s rear camera to be used while riding, as well as weather protected ports for headphones and power cable.
The iPhone 4 bike mount is compatible with BioLogic’s ReeCharge personal power pack.
BioLogic’s Jackson Chen said: “Our goal is to get more people cycling as part of their daily transport routine. We want to encourage people to ride bikes for their shopping, down to the coffee shop, and even out to bars on a Friday night. Obviously, iPhones are an integral part of the lives of many people and when we can seamlessly integrate an iPhone onto a bicycle, we hope people will be more likely to ride instead of drive.”
Chen added: “The iPhone, with the various cycling and mapping apps available, makes the perfect cycle computer. Cycling can be a dirty, muddy, wet and sweaty business and your precious phone needs protection if you want to use it as a cycle computer.”
