I guess ‘First Words’ is very apt in this case as I welcome myself to the world of Sporting Goods Business (SGB).
I have been appointed as editor of SGB Sports, to drive the delivery of industry-leading news, features and analysis for everyone involved in all aspects of sports business, and want to make sure we deliver you the information to get the most out of your business and your work.
As an introduction, I am a (relatively) young journalist, specialised in B2B publishing, and am looking forward to the challenge of getting to grips with the sporting goods business.
My sporting background is one of a spectator over player. In my heyday I wasn’t a half-bad tennis player, nor a bad centre back on the football field. I also earned myself a reputation on the rugby field as a combative prop. I think the actual nickname I was given was Dave ‘The Fridge’ Pittman.
Unfortunately, a strict regime of beer and takeaways at university put pay to my sporting aspirations, so I was left to follow my beloved Chelsea across the land as ‘we’ (I can’t help but refer to myself as part of a football collective) lifted numerous trophies including a first league title in 50 years. Over the coming years I hope to have experiences and memories akin to that sunny day in May 2005, and hope to share them with as many of you as possible.
