I hope you all had a good Christmas and are looking forward to a great New Year

But, more importantly, congratulations to the England cricket team for retaining the Ashes for the first time in 24 years.

I'm only 27, so I can't say I remember it, but I do have vivid memories of standing in a betting shop in Cardiff ahead of the 2005 Community Shield between Chelsea and Arsenal watching the exciting second test of that year's Ashes series, which England won by two runs, before going on to win the series 2-1.

It's a shame that such an exciting victory, particularly the fourth test victory which has secured the Ashes return to English shores in 2011, was played out overnight, when many of us have been sleeping off hangovers or getting ready to, gulp, return to work.

Let us hope the 2013 Ashes will be just as exciting and get as many people as possible excited about playing cricket and involved in sport generally. Hopefully we'll have had a great Olympics by then with everyone running, jumping, swimming and taking to the field in support of British homegrown talent, and laying the seeds for future generations.

Until next time,
