Austrian tennis equipment manufacturer returning to the UK market with new range of rackets; targeting specialist tennis retailers as route to market

Austria’s Kneissl is bringing its ‘Star’ range of tennis rackets back to the UK after a number of years in the shadows, and said it is planning to target specialist tennis retailers as a route to market.

Kneissl manufactures ski and cycling equipment as well as tennis gear, and said it was big in the 1990s and 1980s with Boris Becker and Kevin Curren among those that used to play with its rackets, either as a brand in their own right or under an OEM deal with other manufacturers.

It is now preparing to return to the UK market with four adult rackets, White Star, Red Star, Black Star and Blue Star, as well as three versions of the White Star for junior players, which it said provide a simple choice for all, from professional players to occasional club players.

Kneissl is also working closely with the rising star of women’s tennis Anastajia Sevastova, currently ranked 36 in the WPT, to enhance its White Star racket, which has been redesigned for this season.

Mark Limebear of Kneissl UK said: “Kneissl wants to deal with the grassroots of tennis via smaller retailers, giving them the chance to build relationships with a growing company and provide their tennis clients with exclusive access to an iconic brand, which is also well-known in the ski and cycling markets and has been manufacturing skis for 150 years.”
