I’d love to hear your thoughts on JJB Sports and the CVA; email them to me at dpittman@datateam.co.uk

So, JJB Sports has published details of its proposed Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA), its rescue plan to restore ‘viability and profitability’ to the business.

Having spoken to many of you in the trade on JJB Sport’s future, I know there will be question marks raised over whether it can regain ‘viability’. As for profitability, there are plenty of signs that the world of sports business is seeing the green shots of recovery rooting and business picking up but on the same hand there are many of you that are still struggling in the wake of the global recession, and a question must be asked as to whether JJB Sports is too far down the road to ruin to be able to ‘return to profitability’.

The cynics amongst you will also say that closing a large proportion of your business, and halving the overheads of what’s left, would doubtless improve your profitability as well, but maybe that’s just me.

Whatever your thoughts, I’d love to hear them. I’m sure there are some of you who feel the industry needs to see JJB Sports survive for the greater good, while there will be those who feel it is time to turn the page.

Do send your comments over to me as I’d love to read them and, with your permission of course, share them with the rest of the readers of SGB Sports on the pages of next month’s issue.

Until next time,

David Pittman, editor, SGB Sports
