As a Chelsea fan, what can I say about that draw?

I need to be careful not to get ahead of myself but there’s got to be some serious motivation for Chelsea going into the UEFA Champions League quarter-final ties against Manchester United.

There’s still a long way to go but Chelsea were written off only but a few weeks ago. No chance to catch Man Utd, and probably going to struggle to qualify for Europe’s top team competition next season outright.

All of a sudden, I, and thousands of other fans, am dreaming the dream again. Man Utd are suddenly entirely catchable. In fact, they’re there to be caught. What with another tie in the league against them, a game in hand, a five-match touchline band for Fergie and their own stuttering form, the job is there to be done.

The Champions League pairing only adds more fuel to the fire, as Chelsea can suddenly go from being no-hopers for the year to a team with the real prospect of winning two trophies.

Not a bad draw for Tottenham either, although I’d fancy Real Madrid to win that one.

As I said, there’s still a long way to go, and no doubt I’ll end up eating humble pie at some point, but I hope you’ll forgive a brief five-minute window of anticipation. Bring on Inter Milan in the semi-finals.

Until next time,
