Belfast businessman picks up MBE
John Moore of SS Moore and The Athletic Stores honoured for services to business in Belfast
Eminent Irish sports businessman John Moore has been awarded an MBE for his services to business in Belfast.
Moore joined SS Moore, the family-run business almost 40 years ago. SS Moore recently celebrated its 60th anniversary while The Athletic Stores is one of the oldest sports retailers in Ireland at 125. SS Moore has been an Intersport member since 1977.
Moore has been involved with the Belfast Chamber of Trade and Commerce since the late 1980s. He was appointed chamber president for the period 2001 to 2002, and was re-elected as president for two years from 2008 to 2010.
Hardy was also centrally involved in the foundation of Belfast City Centre Management along with Jim Fitzpatrick, Mary Woods, the late Ivor Oswald and Mike Thompson.
