UEFA gets behind Grass Roots
European football’s governing body to attend grassroots football exhibition to ‘emphasise relationship between grassroots and the elite game’
UEFA has signed up to attend the Grass Roots Football Show, resulting in a week of events celebrating junior and park football.
The Grass Roots Football Show takes place in Birmingham at the NEC on June 3-5, six days after UEFA’s showcase club competition, the Champions League, draws to a close for the season at Wembley Stadium in London.
UEFA will be hosting a programme of grassroots football activity in London and throughout Europe to coincide with the Champions League final, and through their official educational website UEFA Training Ground will now also be a major exhibitor at the NEC.
UEFA’s programme includes the second Grassroots Day on May 25. The event is a celebration of grassroots football across all 53 national member associations to show that ‘elite football cannot flourish without healthy foundations in the grassroots’ and relaying the message that ‘football is open and accessible to all’.
UEFA Training Ground is a dedicated UEFA website focussing on teaching the best practices in the modern game to grassroots players.
Joanna Burns, director of the Grass Roots Football Show, said: “It is a great coup for us to have UEFA and their Training Ground website on board with us.
"This partnership further cements and confirms our position as Europe's only truly authentic independent football event for the whole grassroots family.
"With the UEFA Champions League final coming to England, this will be a seven day celebration of football including the major professional club final in the world and the leading independent grassroots football show.
"UEFA have their own grassroots programme of footballing activity leading up to the final and we are delighted they will continue with a major presence at our own event."
