Four-year deal signed to supply 150-year-old German football team; revives former partnership
Uhlsport is to supply 1860 Munich with kit from the 2011/12 season after signing a four-year deal.
Uhlsport and 1860 Munich, nicknamed the Lions, used to have a partnership where the football apparel brand supplied the club, which plays in the second tier of professional football in Germany, with goalkeeping equipment. The two also held a ‘Goalkeepers Day’ each season to promote the next generation of young footballers.
Günter Daiss, executive partner at Uhlsport, said: “1860 Munich has a deeply rooted footballing tradition and is a real part of Bavarian life. 1860 Munich have a family atmosphere and they‘re approachable, which are values we also see in the Uhlsport brand.
“We believe in the club because we are impressed with the expertise of the management. This is why we see our partnership as a true cooperation, even when it comes to the production and design of the football shirts and the club collection.”
1860 Munich chief executive Robert Schäfer said: “I‘m glad we could get Uhlsport back with us again. The brand has an image which speaks of tradition, family and authenticity.
“Those are the things that the Lions are known for too. We‘re going to present a collection for the coming season which reflects that. And then our players and our fans will give life to it.”
