Less than a year to go, can you feel the excitement?
Due to meetings and prior commitments the year-to-go to the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony passed unmarked here at SGB Towers, but last Wednesday there was definitely an energy flowing around London that gives me great hope that the weeks next summer when the world visits our capital will be something magical.
I must admit I was one of the sceptics when we won the right to host the Olympics back in 2005, but over the years I’ve found myself converted to the cause, not least because it should bring a boost to the sports retail market.
I’ve got friends and family that have already booked their holidays for next August, saying that they want to be nowhere near London when it all kicks off, but I’m quite the opposite. Although I’ve made no secret of the fact that I didn’t even apply for tickets because of the lottery system, I’ll still find it hard to resist travelling into the city to be part of the spectacle that is the Olympics and maybe grab a glimpse of the few free events anyone can watch, such as the marathon.
Hopefully many of you will get to share in on it too, both seeing events and boosting sales.
