Matt Cardona explains why he would want to use his real name in WWE – TJR Wrestling

Matt Cardona has explained why if he ever returns to WWE it will be under his own name and Zack Ryder will not return.

Fans tuning in to Raw and SmackDown these days will be forgiven for channeling their inner Goldberg asking “who’s next?” amid a string of comebacks to WWE.

Dexter Lumis, Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows, Dakota Kai, Braun Strowman, Karrion Kross, Scarlett, Emma and Bray Wyatt are among those who have returned to WWE after their respective exits since Triple H took over the company.

Matt Cardona – who once competed in WWE as Zack Ryder – proudly announced on Twitter “Zack Ryder is dead. Long live Matt Cardona!” in response to whether he would ever return to the company.

Speaking to Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Kevin Kellam, Cardona explained that he might return to WWE one day, but if he did, he would have to do it under his own name:

“It’s certainly exciting, isn’t it?” Every week it seems like someone comes back, debuts or re-debuts. It’s fresh, it’s exciting, it’s must-see TV, and I think that’s what wrestling should be about. Yeah, I said Zack Ryder is dead because, look, never say never, right? But if I had to go back, I think it has to be as Matt Cardona.

“Zack Ryder was what it was. I am so grateful for this race. It prepared me for this race. Without being Zack Ryder in WWE, I wouldn’t be Matt Cardona talking to you right now. So it prepared me for everything, but the ‘Woo Woo Woo’, the headband, but the sunglasses, it’s dead.

“I was trying to get away from that stuff when I was still Zack Ryder in WWE, but you can’t write the show, you know? So if I try to be more serious, but that you’re reserved for not being so serious, that’s what it is. That’s why when I was released, it was like, “Oh my god, that’s it”, not that I I had handcuffs, but the handcuffs were off. I was able to become the new version of me, whatever it was.
